Being included in mainstream classes is why Brady, a student with Down syndrome, was able to graduate high school with a full diploma. This was only possible because of the advocacy of his parents and their non-wavering belief in the importance of inclusion for him. At every IEP and teacher's meeting, they brought a notebook to take notes, but also to share a message with whatever picture was on the cover of that notebook.

The most important messages for them to share with the team/teacher were: Presume Competence (don't just assume Brady couldn't do something, presume he has the potential to learn how and give it a try), Inclusion Works (research proves it's helpful for both the students with disabilities and without), and Brady's motto to change the way people look at a child/student/adult and see them for their abilities and not just see their disability.
